TRAVELLING ARTS FESTIVAL #7
15.11 - 13.12.18 - BRUSSELS
ARNE HUYSMANS °1990
Founder and artistic director of the creative workspace and music venue: VOLTA. As a schooled musician, whilst studying Percussion at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and playing in several bands (Winterslag, Carrasco, among others), Arne felt a shortage of stages that worked in-between the professional and non-professional circuit. Those places that can offer muscicians the opportunity to grow. So, together with Flor Huybens and a handful of volunteers, he took matters into his own hands. Created in 2017, VOLTA offers everything needed to support musicians in Brussels with: artist residencies, rehearsal spaces, masterclases, concerts etc. VOLTA recently moved from Ixelles (Rue Volta) to their new home in Studio Citygate.
KARLIEN TORFS °1987
Karlien Torfs graduated as a theater maker from RITCS in 2015. Karlien mostely likes to work outside the theater walls: preferably on location or in the public space. For the Enter Festival she, for instance, opened a temporary (fictitious) store in Haren, with cosmetics based on chicory. She participated, in theZinnekeparade and l'apPart of Forsiti'A, among other projects. Karlien is part of K.A.K.- 'the Koekelbergse Alliance of Crafting'. She is looking for ways to create spaces or situations in which people meet each other in unusual ways in order to experience something unique together.
ALEX DEFORCE °1984
Self-taught painter, dj, freelance writer, former (On-Point) and future (coming in 2019) label boss, resident visualist at poetry nights and radio maker (The Word). Alex Deforce can best described as aJack of many trades with a distinct love for Brussels.
An uncompromising je-m’en-foutisme gave birth to a trademark style. The tension of modern day living, balancing on the tipping point between the grime of the city and the frivolous facade of metropolis. Warm in their darkness, refined in their dirtiness.
Between wonder, tristesse, pop culture and underground art, Deforce is a talent to keep an eye on. - De Standaard
THE FESTIVAL LOCATION:
Studio Citygate is a new cultural, social and creative hotspot located in an old textile factory near Gare du Midi in Brussels.
