CURATED BY TINA HERBOTS & LAURENS MARIËN
TRAVELLING ARTS FESTIVAL #6
23.02 - 27.03.18 - BRUSSELS
TINA HERBOTS (°1993)
PHOTOGRAPHER / FILM MAKER / TOUR MANAGER / CURATOR
Tina is a Bruxelloise with Jamaican roots. After studying cinema in Sint-Lukas Brussels (now LUCA), she is currently completing her Master in Film Studies and Visual Culture. In addition, Tina is especially well-known for her work as a (music) photographer. At the young age of 18, she already got the chance to work as the in-house photographer of Ancienne Belgique. Since then, Herbots has become a (tour) photographer for several Belgian artists (e.g. Bazart and Tsar B, among others). Despite her love for all things music, she will never call herself strictly a music photographer.
‘MUSIC JUST HAPPENS TO BE WHAT I CAPTURE THE MOST’
And there is more. Herbots also operates as a tour manager for the band Lohaus and designs her own collages in her spare time. Together with Emiel Raeymaekers, she created the first, stunning video clip of Jacobin. Moreover, the artwork she has created for the album 'La Falaise' by WWWater was nominated for the Red Bull Elektropedia Awards 2017.
LAURENS MARIEN (°1990)
CURATOR /ARTIST / MUSICIAN
After his high school graduation in Word Art and Drama, Laurens Mariën decided to move to New York to study Media and Arts at EF Academia. During his year in the Big Apple, his interest in visual art matured. Subsequently Mariën obtained a Master Multimedia Design at KASK Ghent and completed his internship at the art organisation GOUVERNEMENT. Gradually, Laurens started to focus on curating various exhibition concepts under the moniker NEIN. Exhibitions, he believes, should be dynamic and surprising.
Around the same period, Soldier's Heart was born. This indie pop band won the first edition of the music contest “De Nieuwe Lichting” at Studio Brussel and thereafter travelled the world with their music (from Japan to Poland, from Pukkelpop to Les Ardentes). At this moment, Mariën is working in Het Entrepot Brugge, and is engaged in diy.twf at KASK.
What's more? Laurens also writes the music for projects such as Dolly Bing Bing (Elisabeth Van Dam), La Money (Anemone Valcke) and Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe under the banner of his alter ego Alien Observer.
