BANG! BEYT AL TAPES + ASTOR + RAZEN + JANKER
BEYT AL TAPES (BE)
Beyt Al Tapes arose on the roof of a Zanzibari communist building, where a psychedelic evening took place with in the main roles an empty pool, the national football team and numerous Kilimanjaros. In the meanwhile, the vehicle for tape composition was launched where ghosts, exotica and straightforward avant-garde can be found. Beyt Al Tapes circles freely around high frequencies, found sounds and abstract synths, rudimental vocal poetry and open concepts. Or around chess games, obsession for details in the so called reality and the hunt for spectral phenomenea. Sometimes Beyt Al Tapes dares to use old bed sheets, or Moroccan turbans to make his statement. He also recently released his new album ‘ You are now Entering Zimbabwe’ on Kerm Tapes.
Astor is the disguise of the always intense staring Mark Harwood. Mark aligns deep digging conceptualism with arbitrariness. Electro-acoustical compositions, noise and psycho-geographic amplifies, otherwise acoustical empty spaces, to explorations of inaudible languages. He lifts up field-recordings to intense performances where coincidence is used as the driving force. This man is not ashamed of picking up phone calls from his mother live on stage, asking his audience for screaming Black Metal grunts or using styrofoam as instruments. Besides Harwood, Astor is also inspirer of the marvellous record label Penultimate Press.
The Brussels collective RAZEN is one of KRAAK’s robust members. The duo BRECHT AMEEL-KIM DELCOUR gathers around like-minded people to create hard-core avant-garde in such a pure way that it becomes an upgraded version of heathen, ritual folk-music. Old instruments like a hurdy gurdy, a bombus, zithers, a chuch organ, baroque flutes and reed pipes are their magical attributes for a forcing experience that makes the audience become a subject of silenced and transcended minimalism.
JANKER Also known as the super duo consists of The Nose + Edgar Wappenhalter. The duo is known for Romanian poems, sonore, IPA-driven dub and HipHop, tape loops and other explorations of suburban underground music.
TIMING (SUBJECT TO CHANGE)
20:00 introduction Joris Van De Moortel
20:15 Beyt Al Tapes
Due to the construction work currently being undertaken, KultuurKaffee has opted for a nomadic existence and, together with a guest curator, assembles twice a year a multidisciplinary programme of events at various locations dotted around the city of Brussels.
During 6 weeks our guest curator works around a specific theme. He or she chooses different artists from several artistic fields to create and put together an impressive line up. Each time we search for a unique location in the heart of Brussels that harmonizes with the philosophy of the program.
This Spring artist and musician Joris Van De Moortel will be the guest curator of BANG! festival #5.
Joris Van de Moortel will bring an ode to painter Pieter Paul Bruegel The Elder during BANG! The artist and his guests enter into dialogue with Bruegel's allegorical painting: “Twelve Proverbs” (1558-1560).
Every evening is dedicated to the voicing of a proverb of Bruegel, this coupled to a different key.
