JORIS VAN DE MOORTEL
Teun Verbruggen invites three visual artists to create an artistic intervention at W-O-L-K-E. During six weeks the space/room will be the backdrop of Teun’s program and will be turned into a temporary /pop up exposition space. The works of art all stand on their own but at the same time also create the fitting atmosphere for the multidisciplinary character of Teun’s festival program. The three selected artists/collectives are all active on different artistic levels: Joris Van de Moortel, Dear Pigs and Peter Jacquemyn.

Joris Van de Moortel is a painter, sculptor, performer and musician. He uses the architecture and context of a specific place in order to set up his multifaceted work. Van de Moortel deliberately leaves traces of his creative process behind. What Joris destroys with his performances, he wil build up again in his installations according to his very own process of reversal, characterized by improvisation and instability. Only when he is finished, the work obtains its sculptural dimension. For the installation in W-O-L-K-E, Van de Moortel uses these same principles. The existing space will be converted into a “speaker cabinet" in which the concerts and performances will take place.
Dear Pigs is the creative studio of the artistic duo Jan Laute and Sarah Michielsen. The roots of Dear Pigs lie in architecture and photography, but the studio also explores a wide range of disciplines such as graphic design, illustration, urban interventions and sound art. Located in Brussels, Dear Pigs uses the ambiguity of the city as a major source of inspiration. For W-O-L-K-E Dear Pigs creates ‘Les bijoux de la Castafiore’. This installation wants to transform the businesslike environment that W-O-L-K-E is. The installation forms the right context for the concerts, shows and performances that will take place. The moving light and shadow spots trigger a dynamic image in space and the projections invite the public to experience the space in a different way.
Peter Jacquemyn is next to a visual artist also a performer and musician. As a musician, he plays double bass and uses his voice. As an artist, he concentrates on sculpting, drawing and performing. The two worlds - music and visual arts- are combined on an equal level. Music is more than just a guidance and the visual is more than just a decor. During the six-week program of BANG! Peter Jacquemyn will work on a large wall painting in W-O-L-K-E. Once-only visitors see the work as an intermediate stage of a work in progress. Regular visitors of the program witness the gradual evolution of his work.
Every Wednesday between 12:30 and 14:00 during the W-O-L-K-E lunch the exposition of Dear Pigs, Peter Jacquemyn and Joris Van de Moortel is free to visit. Also during the performances in W-O-L-K-E the expo is accessible from 18:00 onwards (only for people with a ticket).
