BANG! FESTIVAL CURATED BY SACHLI GHOLAMALIZAD

Thursday 13 October 2016
Ouverture des portes : 19:30
Price : €5 (red) / €10
Location : De Markten - WITTE ZOLDER Plan

Simurg is a solo performance by Gilles Polet exploring the intricate links between the Sufi culture in Iran and the occidental club culture. For a research period of 6 weeks in the Kermanshah province of Iran, Gilles Polet submerged himself in the culture of the Jorason Sufis. Intrigued and inspired by their ceremonies he started making links between the trance of a sufi and a clubber, both in search for an Extase, a moment of bliss, where the performer shakes off his own ego and abandons himself to something bigger, something greater.

At the base of this research is the book The Conference of Birds by Farid un-Din Attar. The book tells the story of all birds of the world coming together to decide who would be their King. They decide it would be the Simurg, a Devine Bird no-one has ever seen, but after finding a feather of it, each made their own interpretation of what the bird would be like. The book tells about the quest the birds do, in search of the Simurg.

Simurg is the quest Gilles Polet takes in search of the Devine Body.

BANG! FESTIVAL CURATED BY SACHLI GHOLAMALIZAD

6 OCTOBER - 10 NOVEMBER 2016

TRAVELLING ARTS FESTIVAL

In the autumn of 2016, theater maker Sachli Gholamalizad (A Reason To Talk / (Not) My Paradise) will be the curator of KultuurKaffee’s BANG! Festival.

The Iranian-Belgian actress has dedicated the entire festival to the theme 'Fernweh'. Fernweh is a word, borrowed form German, describing a kind of melancholy yearning.

During BANG! Gholamalizad will be highlighting artists who are seeking something else, something higher, something lower, ... or maybe even something closer by. Longing is at the heart of it all.
