La Sera (USA)
Now that the Vivian Girls have officially called it a day, bassist Katy Goodman is free to focus on her other project, La Sera. Her third full-length under this banner is called Hour of the Dawn, and it will be out on May 13 through Hardly Art.
The disc was recorded in Los Angeles last summer with engineer Joel Jerome. While La Sera's past LPs have been bittersweet in tone, this one is apparently more upbeat.
"I wanted the new La Sera record to sound like Lesley Gore fronting Black Flag," Goodman said in a statement. "I didn't want it to be another record of me sad, alone in my room. I wanted to have fun playing music and writing songs with a band."
THE SPECTORS (BE)
The Spectors are a Bruges-based band fronted by songwriter, bassplayer Marieke Hutsebaut. Their shoegaze pop, reminiscent of Twin Peaks and other Lynchian stories, is heavily influenced by The Velvet Underground, Brian Jonestown Massacre, DIIV, … Their lofi-demo recordings have made fans all over the world in a mere couple of months, as Marieke keeps on writing new material all the time.
Living proof that shoegazing is also happening at high levels in this part of the world – can kick it all off! Just like the EP that followed it, debut single ‘Nico’ was recorded with the assistance of Chris Urbanowicz (Ex-Editors!) – who also pulled out the guitar and synth along the way, to give extra colour to the songs.
